Letter from the ISMETA President - Elisa Cotroneo
As I get to know the various Member Organizations I appreciate the broad diversity and wisdom that we hold as the collective field of Somatic Movement. Our individual members expand the knowledge even further by blending practices studied and pioneering new techniques. As diverse as we are …what we hold in common is a deep reverence for the body’s wisdom. We have all come to our way of working by turning to the body as our teacher. We have each done deep research into what it means to be somatically embodied and have each come forth with a piece of the whole.
As we move through the 21st century I see increasing focus on the body and its well being. With more holistic approaches to health and healing being identified isn’t it time for us to share our decades of experience with the up and coming movement and healthcare professionals. It is our responsibility to share what we have come to know in our decades of research and practice and feed the future of the field of Somatic Movement Education and Therapy. I strongly believe NOW is the time to make a giant leap…a Quantum Leap if you will…to bring forth the wisdom of the body. ISMETA is your membership organization; it is here for members to co- create a vehicle to share our work with the world.
As the new President of the Board of Directors I am thrilled to be taking the lead in these inspiring times. We are on the crest of a wave with more and more interest building throughout our international community. There is a need for quality programs all across the globe. We need to step up to the call and make the work accessible to all. We as a Board are working to create strong organizational systems to support this growth.
We have heard your requests for more public education and promotion of the field of Somatic Movement; and also the need for community – ways to connect and share our experiences and knowledge with each other. Thanks to your votes we have a strong Board of Directors ready to work with Volunteers to meet your requests for an active and vital organization.
We welcome your advice and certainly your muscle power as we build our International Professional Network, sharing Best Practices, building recognition and a high level of standards and professionalism in the field of somatic movement education and therapy.
