The Board of Directors for ISMETA is excited to invite you to our 20th year Anniversary Celebration!
In this notice you will find a call for participation---to you, the ISMETA membership.  We have secured a theatrical dance performance space in Manhattan for a Friday evening of Somatic Movement-based choreography--with exceptional 'special guests' lining up the roster.  How exciting!!! Beginning with an inspirational Keynote address to open the evening's festivities, you will then have an opportunity to meet the performers and other ISMETA members from around the world at the post-performance reception held at the theatre.
If you are interested in showing a piece of your own, please read the notice below to find out more about our selection process.
All presenters will receive a small stipend for expenses (excluding additional performers in a choreography.)

The weekend will provide even more to enjoy!

We are certain that our Saturday will be a day to remember.  We are planning a full day of workshops, panel discussions and break-out labs to allow for members to meet and explore pertinent ideas, concerns, issues, and wishes--as well as opportunities to experience workshops from ISMETA members and training programs' instructors.  The evening will be a gathering at  Mary Abrams' Moving Body Resources with live music to dance your heart out to and tingle your feet.

Sunday will be a day for networking and sight-seeing, further discussions and time to move with new friends if the members attending want to explore further.

Our celebration plan has form, but it is also a flexible framework, so we are waiting to see how you will respond!!  The more, the merrier!  Once our membership replies to this invitation, we will send out the schedule of events.  So....climb aboard!  Bring your ideas wishes, concerns, and your body of knowledge to our celebration in September!!

We hope to see all of you there!

Open Networking and Break-out Lab Discussions
On Saturday there will be a designated time for participants to meet as a Open Gathering for networking and sharing.  The Break-out groups will be offered to those who want to brainstorm ideas and share experiences in a group format.  We feel that this gathering is a time to meet and learn about the variety of practices within our community, and a good chance to make connections with others to explore shared interests, research, and dreams.

ISMETA Performance Artists Proposal Submission Guidelines

The performance section for the Friday evening will consist of a selection of pieces to fill 75 minutes, so the number of presenters
will depend upon the length of the pieces selected by the Celebration Committee.  Each choreographer must be a Registered ISMETA member, but the performers in your work do not need to be members.

Please submit a full description of your performance including:

  • the concept, title, number of performers, length, previously performed or premiere
  • how the choreography has been inspired by or related to the Somatic Movement principles in your work.

Include a video sample on DVD or VHS by May 25, 2008.

Send your packet to:

ISMETA -
30 Morgan St. Holyoke, MA 01040

ISMETA members who would like to perform should limit their piece to no more than 15 minutes in length. Your performance can be presented in various ways, including structured improvisations or inter-active choreographies.

With your submission, please include your personal performance history, staging requirements for the piece, clearly including musical and technical support.

This performance event will be hosted by past ISMETA president, Martha Eddy. You will be able to give program notes to Martha as an introduction to your piece, or work with her to develop a Somatic description that can be relayed to the audience.

The evening will begin with a keynote presentation, followed by a reception for members to meet with old friends and make new ones.
