Dynamic Embodiment/Somatic Movement & Touch Training (SMTT), founded by Martha Eddy—BMC and Laban faculty member—in 1991 teaches how to attune with one's own and then others' movement habits by skillfully listening, observing and touching. Learn to identify and support anatomically efficient and expressive movement (using the Laban/Bartenieff system) and the underlying developmental and physiological activity (using BodyMind Centering® principles). DE-SMTT students practice matching clients' needs and motivations, and using improvisational tools to discover healthy and dynamic behavior together. This training is designed for bringing together your talents and experience with the DE-SMTT model to give you confidence as a private practitioner or group leader. Each graduate finds their unique blend to support positive movement and lifestyles with people of different ages and abilities. DE-SMTT is centered on Eddy's Dynamic Development Cycle: observe, acknowledge, and accept; provide body-mind-spirit support, and joyously explore diverse ways of being.
DE-SMTT is now in partnership with SUNY Empire State College through its Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies. Students may take up to six SMTT courses as part of their independently designed Masters inquiry. See www.esc.edu for more information.
Master’s and Doctoral students in Somatic Psychology are invited to join the DE- SMTT as part of the practicum and independent study programs through SBGI in Santa Barbara CA. Also visit www.IUPS.edu for additional information about doctoral studies. Undergraduates have gained credit from SUNY-ESC, UC-East Bay, and Skidmore College. Other colleges may choose to collaborate and will we support that process.
DE-SMTT Faculty include Trisha Bauman, John Chanik, Susanne Kukies, Carol Swann, Linda Tumbarello among others |
